Q & A
Sarah is a devout Christian and a homeschool mother of nine (5 boys and 4 girls). She has been teaching music since she was 14 years old. Over those years she has played in the Grand Rapids, MI youth symphony, won multiple international music competitions playing her violin, and spent several years teaching at the oldest music school in Philadelphia – Settlement Music School.
Sarah is a gifted teacher, especially in teaching children and she has a heart to see children of all ages learn and love music. In 2017 Sarah started Practice Monkeys, a LIVE online music school for homeschool families. Her aim was to offer quality music education at a low price. Each level contains 12 weeks of lessons. Each week has 1 weekly instructional video followed by 4 practice videos and finally 1 assessment video. At the end of the assessment video, there is a short 5-question quiz.
In total, there are 72 videos and 12 quizzes per level all of which must be completed before your student can advance to next level.
We recommend watching the instructional video and the first practice video on Monday. Then watch practice video 2 on Tuesday, 3 on Wednesday, and 4 on Thursday.* Then on Friday take your assessment by watching the assessment video and taking the week’s end quiz.
*We recommend 15 minutes of additional practice after the completion of each day’s practice video (i.e., watch the video, practice with it, and then practice for 15 minutes after the completion of the video.
Students vary in musical aptitude, as such we intend each level to take anywhere between 8 and 12 weeks to complete. Once complete the student will then need to schedule a live assessment with one of our teachers in order to give the student the opportunity to demonstrate his/her understanding and technique for the level under examination.
Using the Suzuki method it is important to understand that the parent is the home-teacher. That said, our program has been used by children as young as 3 years old with the help of the parent.
